Many people are unsure of the process that they have to go through in order to claim on their insurance and although they may have perfectly adequate contents, home or travel insurance, they are stumped if they actually need to claim on it.
In fact, there are many things that you can do in case you ever need to claim on your home or travel insurance, click here for further information or read on.
Firstly keep receipts, preferably in hard and soft copy, especially for the valuable items in your home. If you have expensive jewellery, carpets or electronics then make sure you have a copy of the receipt so that the insurers will know the initial value if they are ever lost or damaged.
It is also better to scan in the most important receipts and keep them stored in a directory that is regularly backed up outside of the home network in case the worst happens and the whole house is destroyed.
Secondly there are certain items in the house which will appreciate in value such as gold and jewellery. It is prudent to get your jewellery valued every couple of years or so, as the jeweller will take photographs and write up a detailed description as well as placing a value on them, which will help if any items are ever lost or stolen.
